The buzz about The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
